Birthday Parties For Children

SPECIAL PROJECTS - MAKE A CLUBHOUSE
OR A QUILT TOGETHER

At the party make a clubhouse or a quilt for the birthday child. Precut the wood for the clubhouse and have things ready so the children can help put the house together. Don't have too many guests. Three or four is fine. They should be seven or older. Another grownup would be helpful. To make a quilt together, give each child a 12-by-12-inch square of pastel cotton cloth. Have each of them draw a self-portrait on the square with permanent markers and sign his or her name and the date. Later, as the children play, have a grownup at the party sew the squares together on a sewing machine so that everyone can see what the quilt will look like. Later, add pre-quilted fabric for the reverse side and finish the edges with blanket binding.
