Here's an idea from a teacher of 4-year-olds in Montgomery, AL.

"I read the book to them, pointing to all the picture clues, such as the bear and the chair. The second time we read the book, the class read it with me. Then, I asked for volunteers to come up one at a time and read it with me. The children could do it because of the pictures, the predictive text, the rhythmic and rhyming clues, and my prompting. They were so proud of their reading.
