HOW TO PLAY

Establish a start and finish line. It (the birthday child at first) stands at the finish line. The other players spread out across the start line. It yells, "Green Light!" turns away from the players, and counts out loud from one to ten, during which time the players run toward the finish line. When It reaches ten, It yells, "Red Light!" and turns back to the players. At the sound of the words "Red Light," the players stop running and freeze. It (or an adult standing on the sidelines) sends anyone still moving back to the start line. It yells, "Green Light!" and the game continues. Eventually someone reaches the finish line and touches It. That person is the next It.
