Birthday Parties For Children

SPECIAL PROJECTS - PIÑATAS

Make a piñata by putting several strong grocery bags inside one another. Fill with wrapped candy, small boxes of raisins, small toys and sticks of gum. Tie tightly and knot securely. Decorate either at the party or ahead of time, using crayons, markers, and strips of paper pasted on the bag. Often a piñata is made to look like an animal face, such as a lion, a monster, or a dog with floppy ears. At the party, hang the piñata from a tree or from the ceiling. Let the children take turns, blindfolded, trying to hit the piñata with a broom or plastic baseball bat. (Make sure the other children stand back.) Eventually, the piñata will break and the candy will fall out for everyone to share.
