Dinosaur-Egg Cake. Bake an egg inside the cake. Claim that it is a dinosaur egg. Whoever gets the egg wins a prize.

Dinosaur Ice Cream Cones. Put a small plastic dinosaur on top of each ice cream cone.

Juice, milk, punch

DECORATIONS

Put a plain tablecloth and markers or crayons on the table and have the children draw dinosaurs on it. Ask them to add trees, mountains, sky, and ponds to show what they think the world of dinosaurs looked like.

For a centerpiece, arrange dinosaur toys in a little scene. Add plants and stones to make it realistic. The birthday child may enjoy setting up the arrangement with his or her own toys.

FAVORS, PRIZES, ITEMS FOR TREAT BAGS

Various sizes of plastic dinosaurs (small ones are inexpensive by the bagful at dollar stores), markers or crayons to use first on the tablecloth and then to keep.

INSIDE ACTIVITY, NONCOMPETITIVE

Make "fossil" handprints for each child to take home. Take several large baking pans of wet sand. Have each child press a hand into the wet sand, then remove it. Pour in quick-drying plaster of paris, made according to the directions on the package. When the handprints are dry, remove them and see if the children can find their own.

INSIDE GAMES, COMPETITIVE

1. Hot-O-Saurus. Play like Hot Potato but pass around a small dinosaur toy.

2. Pin the Head on the Dinosaur. Play like Pin the Tail on the Donkey.

3. Toss Dinosaurs in the Swamp. Play like Bull's-Eye Toss, only throw plastic or stuffed dinosaurs.

Outside Games, Noncompetitive

1. Dinosaur Hunt. Play like a Candy Hunt, only hunt for plastic dinosaurs. Have extras to drop near the child who doesn't find any.

2. Duck, Duck, Dinosaur. Play like Duck, Duck, Goose.

3. The Blob

OUTSIDE GAMES, COMPETITIVE

1. Red Rover. Say, "Let Susan-O-Saurus come over."

2. Snatch the Dinosaur Egg. Play like Snatch the Flag.

3. Fossil. Play like Stone.
